Fish Crawl - Baltimore Fishstores / Ron Nielson's Fish Room August, 2003

NJAS / JSAS societies did their second Fish Crawl - Baltimore Run in August, 2003. We visited few stores in Baltimore area and did some fish and plant shopping. This was my first time visiting Baltimore stores and I was quite impressed especially with availability in Aquarium Center. Excellent plant section with availability of plants like Heteranthera dubia, Glossostigma elatinoides, Didiplis diandra, Rotala macranda and many others, which are not frequently or at all, available in local stores. Great selection in shrimp: Caridina japonica (aka. Amano shrimp), Bumblebee shrimp, Neocaridina denticulata (aka. Red Cherry shrimp). The best selection of Rainbow fish I have ever seen.

Second part of Fish Crawl was dedicated to Ron Nielson's fish room. Ron and his wife were very friendly individuals and despite their recent unfortunate events (fire in fish room) they welcomed entire group with open hands and smile on their faces. Ron is in the process of building hi-tech hatchery/fish room but there was still a lot to finish. Ron's fish stock was full of many varieties of Apistogramma sp. (ex. Inca), SA/CA cichlids and africans. Ron also sells New Life Spectrum fish food which I personally found to be one of the best on the market.
